[1] Form a game plan Talk to your sig. other, or folks. [2] Write it down. [3] If you are hurt,and consious, look for these things. Where are the EMS folks going to take you.Stay in familar teritory. Don't let them take you to some Godforsaken hospital, if you can help it. Get an idea who has good trauma centers in your zone of travel. Easier than you think,and better before, than during. [4] If it's just first aid, pay attention. Follow what is told to you, so you know for sure how to get better quicker. [5] Take all Meds. as prescibed. DON'T stop in midstream. Take 'em until they're gone. [6] Now comes the heavy stuff. If your Not consious, this is where family comes in. If You plan to be an orgin donor, now is NOT the time. You should have planned that BEFORE [see 2] Same if you are so far gone,you want the plug pulled. [7] Family finds out Who is going to do what. They call YOUR Doc. for advise. No beginners,thanks. [8] LISTEN UP.If your headed for surgery,The family makes SURE the Anesthesiologist is going to STAY with you. Not doing you and four other people at the same time. They usually come and talk to you, or the family BEFORE surgery. MAKE SURE,you or the family understands this. IF you [or the family INSIST] they will most likey honor that request. Thats very Important. [9] Now you got NO control. Your in ICU. Family keeps a vigil on your ass.If you think the folks in ICU are Super tuned into YOUR needs, THINK AGAIN. Thats on TV. If you go through surgery, and it's in the evening, AND you are LIKELY to wake up in the middle of the night, YOU GOT TROUBLE. This is where YOUR family has to kick ass and take names. SOMEONE has to be there at night. REPEAT, Someone HAS to be there at night. Your Docs. are Gone. Most of the Staff is GONE.Your completly in ICUs hands.Most times, it's OK. BUT. If you've ever woken up, your grogged out of your gourd,you know your in ICU, and you've got tubes all over,AND you have a HUGE breathing tube down your throat, THEN ,and only then, you'll know what this overly long sermon was about. [10] Make sure you know about [and your family knows about] INHALATION therapist, and therapy. When you wake up [in ICU] and IF you have that huge breathing tube down your throat, GUESS what your thinking about? Now it's at night. Your kicking the shit out of the bed, the nurses are playing grabass, and the inhalation people are beddy bye.THATS when the FAMILY starts to kick ass and take names. If you have a Nasty ass in your family circle, Pray they'll be there THEN. Better yet,TALK to THEM beforhand.... How do I know, Guess.
